THE AUTHOR

Coos Hamburger is a photojournalist and public health professional with a particular interest in emergency medicine. Combining his expertise in both fields, Hamburger has embarked on two long-term projects at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland Medical Center with the goal of portraying the varied effects of trauma on patients and medical care providers. For the past two years, he has followed the story of Richard Norris and the dedicated team of health professionals at the institution who have given Norris a new lease on life, and have revolutionized tissue transplantation. Hamburger holds a degree from Johns Hopkins, Baltimore and a certificate from the Universite Catholique de Louvain School of Public Health, Brussels. He lives with his wife and children outside of Baltimore, Maryland.
